Ambassador Georges Prevelakis took up his position as Permanent Representative of Greece to the OECD on 10 October 2019.

Mr Prevelakis is Emeritus professor at Pantheon-Sorbonne University (Paris 1). Born in Athens in 1949, he studied Architecture and Engineering at Athens Technical University and Urban and Urban and Regional Planning at the Sorbonne (Paris). After working as an urban planner in Greece, in 1984 he left to pursue an international academic career. At the end of the Cold War, he focussed his teaching and research onto geopolitics in the Balkans, the Eastern Mediterranean, and in relation to diasporas.

Mr. Prevelakis has served as Professor and Research Professor in Greece (Polytechnic, Panteion University), in France (Sorbonne, Institut des Sciences Politiques de Paris and INALCO), in the United States (Johns Hopkins University, Boston University, Tufts University) and in the United Kingdom (London School of Economics). Between 2003 and 2005, he served as Chairholder of the Constantine G. Karamanlis Chair in Hellenic and European Studies at The Fletcher School. He has been a University Professor at Pantheon-Sorbonne (Paris 1) since 2000, and has been active in the French and international media and think tanks on questions related to Balkan security and, as of 2010, the Greek economic crisis. Between 2013 and 2015, he served as Permanent Representative of Greece to the OECD.

Mr. Prevelakis is co-director of the French academic journal Anatoli (CNRS Editions) and a frequent op-ed contributor to the Athens daily Kathimerini. His two most recent publications are Who are we? The Geopolitics of the Greek identity, Economia Publishing, Athens, 2017, and Qui sont les Grecs ? Une identité en crise, CNRS Editions, Paris, 2017.

Ο Πρέσβης Γιώργος Πρεβελάκης ανέλαβε τα καθήκοντά του ως Μόνιμος Αντιπρόσωπος της Ελλάδας στον ΟΟΣΑ στις 10 Οκτωβρίου 2019.

Ο κ. Πρεβελάκης είναι ομότιμος καθηγητής στο Πανεπιστήμιο Panthéon-Sorbonne (Παρίσι 1). Γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα το 1949, σπούδασε Αρχιτεκτονική Μηχανική στην Πολυτεχνική Σχολή Αθηνών και αστικές και περιφερειακές μελέτες σχεδιασμού στη Σορβόννη. Μετά από επαγγελματική εμπειρία ως σχεδιαστής στην Ελλάδα, ακολούθησε μια διεθνή ακαδημαϊκή καριέρα (από το 1984). Μετά το τέλος του Ψυχρού Πολέμου, η διδασκαλία και η έρευνά του επικεντρώθηκαν στη γεωπολιτική των Βαλκανίων, της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου και της διασποράς.

Υπήρξε καθηγητής-ερευνητής στην Ελλάδα (Ecole polytechnique, Πάντειο Πανεπιστήμιο), στη Γαλλία (το Sorbonne, το Institut des Sciences Politiques de Paris και το INALCO), στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες (Johns Hopkins University, Boston University, Tufts University) ) και το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο (London School of Economics). Μεταξύ 2003 και 2005, κατείχε την προεδρία του Κωνσταντίνου Γ. Καραμανλή στις Ελληνικές και Ευρωπαϊκές Σπουδές στο Fletcher School. Καθηγητής στα Πανεπιστήμια του Panthéon-Sorbonne (Παρίσι 1) από το 2000 έως το 2018, ζητήθηκε συχνά από τα γαλλικά και διεθνή μέσα ενημέρωσης και ομάδες προβληματισμού για θέματα ασφάλειας στα Βαλκάνια και, από το 2010, για την κρίση Ελληνική οικονομία. Μεταξύ 2013 και 2015 διετέλεσε Μόνιμος Αντιπρόσωπος της Ελλάδας στον ΟΟΣΑ.

Ο κ. Πρεβελάκης είναι συν-διευθυντής του πολυεπιστημονικού περιοδικού Anatoli (CNRS Editions). Δημοσιεύει συχνά μια στήλη για την καθημερινή Αθήνα Καθημερινή. Τα δύο τελευταία βιβλία του είναι: Ποιοι είμαστε; Η Γεωπολιτική της ελληνικής ταυτότητας, η Έκδοση Economia, Αθήνα, 2017 και Ποιοι είναι οι Έλληνες; Μια ταυτότητα σε κρίση, CNRS Editions, Παρίσι, 2017.
