Aliki Mitsakos, born in Athens, Greece, has lived and worked in many countries abroad.
She has a career in Medicine and a parallel one in Civil Society, non-formal Education and International affairs, which continues following formal retirement from the Medical practice.
PROFESSIONAL CAREER
Graduated from Wakefield High school of Arlington, Va., studied Medicine in Brussels, Belgium, San Diego, U.S.A., and the University of Athens, Greece, specialized in Anaesthesia – Intensive Care and Pain Management in Greece, U.S.A. and England. She holds a Ph.D. cum laude, in Pharmacology.
She has worked at all levels and eventually as Director of Anesthesia Dept. and the Intensive Care Unit, keeping simultaneously a Private Practice. She has practiced in Greece and abroad, including Stanford University in California and other Centers in the U.S.A.; in London, England; Moscow, Russia; and Cape Town, South Africa. She has taught at the University of Athens, the Institute of Vocational Training, and many international advanced programs.
Actively involved in promoting the academic, clinical and safety aspects of the related fields of medicine, she has served on the Board of the Hellenic Society of Anesthesiologists, founded the Association that set the standards of practice, served as the National Delegate at the Monospecialist Committee for Anaesthesia and Reanimation of the European Union (U.E.M.S.), on the European Board of Anesthesiology, and numerous Hellenic and International Societies, including the European Academy and the European Society of Anesthesiology.
PUBLIC CAREER
Besides her professional career, she has also been an active member of Civil Society, for the past 25 years and more, on issues related to International relations, Security, and Education, with a particular focus on Youth and gender issues.
She has been active in Soroptimist International, served as President of the Union of Greece, is founding member of the Greek Association for Atlantic & European Cooperation, Chair of Women In International Security – Hellas, Ambassador for Peace of the Universal Peace Federation, and more. She is also involved in Greek Politics including a candidacy at the Regional Municipal elections.
She has participated at over 150 major Conferences and meetings all over the world, both Medical and Political, delivered a number of addresses on her related broader interests, and published monographs and many articles to scientific journals, the daily press and magazines such as the Foreign Affairs.
The broader professional and civil interdisciplinary experiences she has acquired over the years, through active involvement in Civil Society, International Relations and soft diplomacy, and, of course, Education, both formal and non-formal, have led to active involvement in promoting broader interdisciplinary education as the necessary form of education for all citizens who wish to be constructive in their disciplines and societies, particularly during their younger years.
Through G.A.A.E.C. she has organized numerous educational programs, mostly international, focusing on geopolitics, security, and international affairs. The gender perspective was always included as a standard feature, to include also implementation of the Action Plan for Greece on the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Promoting the Political Participation of Women in all Aspects of Peace and Security” and beyond.
She has been actively involved in the organization of the International Institute for Political & Economic Studies, through G.A.A.E.C. in cooperation with The Fund for American Studies and Georgetown University for over 20 years. IIPES has been the largest educational international program in the Mediterranean, and retains an Alumni network of over 3000 professional around the world.
Realizing after research the need for a constructive summer program for youth in the late teens she created and launched in 2004 the unique International Educational program for teenagers “Kernels of our Future” © based on non-formal / informal education methods, eventually rebranded to Leaders For Our Future©.
The International Center for Leading Studies was founded in 2012, following the reorganization of the educational projects of G.A.A.E.C. She is currently serving as Dean of the Center.
Her main interest is researching and developing non formal education methods and practical tools that can proliferate leadership for the younger generation, as an investment for the future of our societies.
She is married and has one son, Electrical Engineer and Computer Sciences graduate, working as Business Consultant. The Kernels program was created for him!

Η Αλίκη Μητσάκου, γεννημένη στην Αθήνα, aπό τη Γαλλική Σχολή Saint Joseph και το Αμερικανικό Κολέγιο Θηλέων Αθηνών, αποφοίτησε από το ‎Wakefield High School, Arlington, Va., Η.Π.Α., και στη συνέχεια φοίτησε στην Ιατρική Σχολή των ‎Université Libre de Bruxelles, Βέλγιο, Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών, και University of California Medical School, ‎San Diego, Η.Π.Α.
Με ειδικότητα στην Αναισθησιολογία και Εντατική Θεραπεία και διδακτορικό στη Φαρμακολογία από το Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών, εργάστηκε στο Ιατρικό Κέντρο Πανεπιστημίου Stanford, ΗΠΑ, και στο τμήμα Φαρμακολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου της Καλιφόρνια, στο Σαν Φρανσίσκο. Επιστρέφοντας στην Ελλάδα, εργάστηκε ως Διευθύντρια Αναισθησιολογικού Τμήματος σε δύο μεγάλα Νοσοκομεία Αθηνών, καθώς και Διευθύντρια της Μονάδας Εντατικής Θεραπείας του 6ου Νοσοκομείου Ι.Κ.Α. διατηρώντας ταυτόχρονα ιδιωτικό επάγγελμα.
Εργάστηκε επίσης σε Ιατρικές Μονάδες στο Λονδίνο, στις ΗΠΑ., στη Μόσχα και τη Νότια Αφρική. Δίδαξε μεταπτυχιακούς φοιτητές Ιατρικής στο Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών, στο Τ.Ε.Ι. Αθηνών και στο Ινστιτούτο Επαγγελματικής Κατάρτισης. Υπήρξε Εθνική Εκπρόσωπος στην Επιτροπή Αναισθησίας και Αναζωογόνησης (U.E.M.S.) της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, και μέλος του Ευρωπαϊκού Συμβουλίου Αναισθησιολογίας. Είναι επίσης μέλος (και μέλος Δ.Σ.) πολλών Ελληνικών και Διεθνών Επιστημονικών Εταιρειών, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της Ευρωπαϊκής Ακαδημίας Αναισθησιολογίας και της Ευρωπαϊκής Εταιρείας Αναισθησιολόγων.
Εκτός από Γιατρός, υπήρξε ενεργό μέλος της Κοινωνίας των Πολιτών, κυρίως σε θέματα Εκπαίδευσης και Ασφάλειας εστιάζοντας στη Νεολαία και τις Γυναίκες και συνήγορος της μη τυπικής διεπιστημονικής εκπαίδευσης ως εργαλείο ανάπτυξης των ατόμων.‎
Έχει εκλεγεί σε Μ.Κ.Ο. / Συνδικαλιστικούς φορείς & Επιστημονικές Εταιρείες, Πρόεδρος της Ένωσης Ελλάδος του Διεθνούς Σοροπτιμισμού 2006-2008, πολλά αξιώματα Επιστημονικών Εταιρειών, Συλλόγων & ΜΚΟ (Πρόεδρος Ομοσπονδίας Συλλόγων Γονέων Φιλεκπαιδευτικής Εταιρείας, Πανελλήνιο Παρατηρητήριο των Οργανώσεων της Κοινωνίας Πολιτών, Ελληνική Αναισθησιολογική Εταιρεία, Σύλλογος Αναισθησιολόγων Γιατρών Αττικής / Ιδρυτικό μέλος, Διεθνής Ιατρική Εταιρεία κατά των Πυρηνικών και Βιοχημικών Όπλων, κά., συμπεριλαμβανομένων δραστηριοτήτων στον πολιτικό χώρο.
Έχει λάβει μέρος σε Ιατρικά Συνέδρια Ελληνικά και Διεθνή, με ομιλίες και ανακοινώσεις, αλλά και ως μέλος Οργανωτικής Επιτροπής, καθώς και σε πολύ μεγάλο αριθμό Συνεδρίων, Συσκέψεων κλπ. ευρύτερου κοινωνικού και πολιτικού ενδιαφέροντος στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό.
Έχει δημοσιεύσει πρωτότυπες επιστημονικές εργασίες στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό, ανασκοπήσεις και σημειώσεις για εκπαιδευτική χρήση στον Ιατρικό χώρο, και πολλά άρθρα σχετικά με ιατρική πληροφόρηση του κοινού αλλά και την άσκηση της ειδικότητας, στον ημερήσιο Τύπο.
Έχει επίσης δημοσιεύσει άρθρα και ομιλίες ευρύτερου ενδιαφέροντος, σε διάφορες εκδόσεις με θέματα που αφορούν τα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα, τη θέση της γυναίκας, και την διεπιστημονική μη τυπική εκπαίδευση .
Δημιούργησε το πρωτότυπο Διεθνές εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα Leaders For Our Future για εφήβους (με κατοχυρωμένα πνευματικά δικαιώματα, 2004), και The International Center for Leading Studies, www.ticls.org, το 2012, με στόχο την ευρύτερη διεπιστημονική εκπαίδευση των νέων όπως απαιτείται στις σημερινές συνθήκες της παγκοσμιοποιημένης οικονομίας και κοινωνίας.
